These are speaker systems of extreme quality, characterized by breathtaking sonic performance but, alas, necessarily challenging cost given the inherent technological and construction complexities. Nonetheless, it would be ungenerous to say that this company neglects the entry-level segment, however, having the foresight to recalibrate that concept in relation to its catalog. Personally, I have long devoted myself to studying and listening to both the Oscar series, of which I was the happy owner of the stand model called the Duo, and the next series, namely the Parker. This seemingly strange definition finds justification in the fact that the two 19-cm mid woofers with which they are equipped work with a slightly different <i>roll off<\/i>. These are speakers with very wide excursion ceramic membranes made by German specialist Accuton to the specifications of designer Leif Marten. The &#8220;motor&#8221; is a powerful neodymium magnet, and the shape of the beautiful basket, assuming it can still be called that, is reduced to the essentials in order to improve its aerodynamic performance. Interestingly, these components are equipped with a non-removable protective metal grille that is completely transparent to the sound. Therefore, the Parker Trios are not equipped with the classic acoustic cloth covers, which, moreover, are ineffective in terms of protecting the drivers from impact. The same metal grilles are used on the two passive radiators with 22.5-cm aluminum membranes mounted on the rear panel. The use of passive drivers instead of a bass reflex tuning port results, according to Marten, in superior emission uniformity while avoiding the noise inherent in the tuning port. Note the attachment of the spider to the slender basket. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As for the tweeter we have a one-inch ceramic unit, also equipped with a protective metal grille, mounted on a mirror-polished metal flange. The crossover benefits from a technology developed by Marten called <i>Multi-Diverse <\/i>and impiaga components of unquestionable quality with copper foil coils and Polypropylene capacitors. As with all Marten models, the crossover of the Parker Trios was developed through a rigorous simulation, calculation and measurement process accompanied by hours of listening and testing. It is worth mentioning in this regard that the company has a modern recording studio within which the speakers made in the role of monitors are used. The ability to compare real and reproduced sound almost in real time provides the designer with important <i>feedback <\/i>in the development and fine-tuning of his designs. The stated sensitivity is 91 dB and impedance 6 ohms with a minimum at 3.1, meaning that the Parker Trios are not a particularly heavy load for whatever amplifier is called upon to drive them. Nevertheless, their appearance is quite graceful. The merit of this result lies, in my opinion, in the trapezoidal shape in plan (observe the double value stated for the cabinet width that is referred to the front and the rear) and the fact that the entire speaker is visibly tilted backward. These are details whose origin is undoubtedly functional, but they contribute greatly to the visual lightening of the speakers, which are firmly anchored to the ground by means of a stand consisting of two mirror-polished metal crossbeams, at the ends of which are large insulating elements made in collaboration with the Canadian company IsoAcoustic. These isolators reduce resonance and distortion by completely decoupling the speaker from the support surface in order to reduce the transmission of some frequencies, shifting them to others that are less perceptible to listening. In particular, in the <i>Piano Walnut<\/i> version that was kindly made available to us for testing, we appreciated the masterful execution of the lacquering that highlights the wood grain that is moreover symmetrical between the two speakers. These speakers are not bi-wiring ready, so on the rear panel we find a single pair of WBT NextGen connectors for power wiring, mounted on a mirror-polished metal plate bearing the model name and serial number. Also note the separate wiring for positive and negative, the use of leadscrews, and, in the background, the reinforcement septum. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><b>The system used<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>We listened to the Parker Trios by connecting them to the various mid- and high-level integrated amplifiers that alternated in our Room 2 over the course of our two-month stay. The &#8220;spark,&#8221; however, came the moment we drove them with an old acquaintance of ours, namely the Vitus Audio Ri 101 MKII that was kindly lent to us by our friend Maestro Stefano Greco. Knowing this amplifier well and having in mind the technical specifications we expected an excellent result, however the outcome went far beyond the most optimistic expectations. The source mainly used was the Linn Selekt DSM DAC\/streamer receiving files via UPnP from our NAS with Minimserver or directly from Qobuz. Alternatively, from the Antipodes Audio K30 in Roon server + HQPlayer mode. Further testing was done with the Aqua La Scala MKII DAC. As usual, the cabling used, both signal and power, was Neutral Cable Reference Series.      <\/p>\n<p>The speakers that were delivered to us for testing were new and had only played for about ten hours. This necessitated the performance of a break-in in forced stages, which I did by running a special track provided by Marten along with the speakers to accomplish this task. It is, forgive the approximation, a <i>Sweep <\/i>superimposed on a pink noise (or white noise, who knows&#8230;). Since, for obvious reasons, break-in cannot be done at an excessively low level, on pain of failing to mechanically stress the drivers, and since the aforementioned test tone is not particularly pleasant to listen to (dreadful to be honest), it was necessary to stay away from Room 2 for quite some time trusting in the tolerance of the neighbors. Our job as reviewers involves listening to a multitude of devices, trying to understand as accurately as possible their &#8220;character,&#8221; and then conveying it to our readers. Okay, but what does &#8220;character&#8221; mean in this context? Here the subject gets a little more slippery because we are no longer talking about objective data, about numbers measured with measuring instruments. No, here we are talking about how the components of the audio chain &#8211; the speakers in this case &#8211; solicit our senses, how they move our souls (assuming they can). About what cards they can play to evoke a certain listening experience, perhaps live, that moved us and remained vividly etched in our memory. I am aware that some (several) among those who will read these listening notes will be horrified by my so unscientific approach. However, to them I would like to wish that at least once in their lives they happen to experience the emotion that listening to a sound system worthy of the name can give. At that moment &#8211; in my opinion &#8211; one no longer thinks about numbers, technologies, quality\/price ratios. At that moment one is overwhelmed by the beauty, the emotion induced by the music.         <\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s return to the Parker Trios and, after all the talk we just had, to their character, which was clear and evident to me from the first few minutes of listening. Unlike most of the speakers I have reviewed (and even owned) over the years, the impression I got was that I knew the Parker Trios all along. That is: I didn&#8217;t have to strain to figure out how they sounded, because what I heard was always and invariably what I wanted to hear, what I expected to hear. As if the Parker Trios knew a priori my ideal of &#8220;sound aesthetics&#8221; and presented it to me effortlessly. With simplicity and naturalness even in the face of very high intrinsic resolution and great transparency.    <\/p>\n<p>As far as I am concerned, this is the first time I have paid such a compliment to a loudspeaker (I have not expressed myself this way even for my Vivid Audio Giya G 2.1), so I might as well end this review here. My concern, upon placing the Parker Trios in Room 2, was that they would be too large relative to the cubic size of that room. However, this was an unfounded fear: the bass range immediately revealed itself to be not only articulate, very fast and timbrally accurate, but also well restrained and never intrusive. The interesting thing then is that to fully enjoy it it is not necessary to go up with the volume of the amplifier, since even at low levels nothing is lost. That said, I would like to emphasize that the bass range of these speakers does not go in the direction of the famous &#8220;punch in the stomach&#8221; that so seduces some listeners. For those looking for that kind of &#8220;hard feeling&#8221; the Parker Trios may be far too gentle and relaxed. Conversely, they may be ideal for those looking for the ultimate in tonal refinement and impeccable time response. Yes, because the Parker Trio&#8217;s bass comes in very fast and just as quickly and naturally decays. In certain passages they even evoked memories of my old Magneplanar 1.7s as to speed, but with a body that American dipoles could only dream of.        <\/p>\n<p>Positioning in Room 2-acoustically treated, this must be remembered-was not particularly complex, and with just a few adjustments we managed to obtain a wide image on all three axes and remarkably stable. Of course, it was necessary to leave quite a bit of space with respect to the back and side walls. Even with respect to this parameter the Parker Trios stand out for their naturalness: the <i>stage <\/i>never gives the feeling of being the result of who knows what artifice, you never have the feeling that it could collapse at any moment. It is there, stable, you feel it clearly, and after a while you get used to it and take it for granted.   <\/p>\n<p>The midrange &#8211; here I am thinking of some piano recordings &#8211; is a flourish of lights, colors, chiaroscuros in which to get lost. And one realizes this by subtraction: some recordings shine in this sense and benefit from the treatment that these speakers know how to instill. Others, on the other hand, less successful, are &#8220;unmasked&#8221; by the Parker Trio, although nevertheless the overall result always remains more than enjoyable.  <\/p>\n<p>In the high range the performance is superb thanks to the ability to enucleate detail in a context of absolute timbral balance. In this frequency region, too, there is a sense of a staggering level of transient response speed, albeit coupled with a sweetness and silkiness (okay, I&#8217;ve used this overused adjective myself, but I can&#8217;t think of a better one) that prevent any tendency to harden the response. At this point it makes me wonder how the <i>Diamond Edition<\/i> version of the Parker Trios, which is equipped with a diamond tweeter and various other technical refinements that should ensure that they perform close enough to those of the Swedish manufacturer&#8217;s higher series models, might sound.  <\/p>\n<p>I conclude this review by asking a rhetorical question: are the Marten Parker Trio speakers suitable for all genres? I have tried to abstract myself from my passions and have zealously listened to a bit of everything from Classical to Pop, Jazz to Folk, Fusion to Electronic, Vocal, Choral, etc. Frankly, I cannot say that I have found a situation in which these speakers have not excelled. And so, perhaps, the question needs to be asked differently: are the Marten Parker Trio speakers suitable for all listeners? Here, in my opinion, the answer is: no. No because to fully appreciate their gifts one needs to have a <i>background <\/i>as much in audio reproduction as &#8211; and even more so &#8211; in music culture. The Marten Parker Trio are speakers capable of delivering strong, indeed very strong, emotions. Rarely have I also been moved. <\/p>\n<p>This time Giulio invited me to listen to the Marten Parker Trio and, I confess, I went there with already high expectations. These are, objectively, fascinating speakers with a solid critical reputation. I was well prepared. Perhaps too much, I told myself, to be really surprised.   <\/p>\n<p><em>I was wrong.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>What I had not accounted for is how well certain speakers can render not only the music, but the <em>space<\/em> in which that music breathes. As a pianist, I am used to perceiving the room as an integral part of the sound: the resonance, the depth, the distance between my fingers and the audience. The Parker Trios recreated all this with a naturalness that I found almost moving.  <\/p>\n<p>The tonal output is of a rare cleanliness, free of the artificial patina that betrays even the best systems. But the real surprise was the emotional involvement: I found myself not <em>analyzing<\/em> what I was hearing, but simply listening. To let myself be carried away.  <\/p>\n<p>For those who, like me, spend their lives coming to terms with the difference between a note played and a note <em>heard<\/em>, it is a distinction that matters a great deal.<\/p>\n<p>We listened to several pieces, from different genres. The jazz of the Marcin Wasilewski Trio was engaging and fun: one almost felt tempted to turn one&#8217;s head whenever the pianist alternated with the double bassist or drummer. The symphonic music (Mahler &#8211; Symphony No. 3, Boulez) seemed to reach beyond the confines of the listening room; the sound of classical piano (Corigliano &#8211; Fantasia on an Ostinato, Trifonov) had a density that, as a pianist, I rarely perceive in a reproduction.  <\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0;\">Rather than in front of a detailed rendering, I had the feeling that I was in front of a fully musical reproduction, capable of crossing all frequencies without losing naturalness. As a musician, the difference is this: not having heard the music well, but having been touched by it. <\/p>\n<p><em>Stephen Greco<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2><b>Conclusions<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>With a retail price of \u20ac23,000, the Marten Parker Trio are in the ranks of high-end loudspeakers, and this is quite obvious. It must be said, however, that with this amount you come into possession of a good slice of the Marten sound, as well as an object of rare beauty and elegance destined to last.
