The brand is now part of the Audio Tuning (Pro-Ject) group, which has taken over from founder Anthony Michealson, ensuring the continuity of the company\u2019s expertise without compromising its identity. The current catalog  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicalfidelity.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Musical Fidelity<\/a>  It offers a rich and diverse lineup, with multiple product lines categorized by price range and component type. Its models are also known for their durability. A new release like the M6xi integrated amplifier therefore does not go unnoticed. It updates its predecessor, the M6si\u2014a model that enjoyed considerable success\u2014gaining 10 watts of power, expanding digital input connectivity, and further refining its build quality.<\/p>\n<p>The design is traditional and features a separation of circuit functions within a sturdy metal cabinet. The power stages are separate for the two channels, with the circuit boards mounted along the chassis\u2019s wide, finned sides. This precaution is further enhanced by the metal shielding box that encloses it, representing an improvement over the previous M6si. There are five secondary windings, dedicated to separate power lines not only for the two power channels but also for the preamp section and auxiliary circuits. The standby power supply board is also located inside the same shielding enclosure, while the audio PCBs house the relevant power supply components. For example, the power modules and the preamp section feature dedicated rectifier bridges and filter capacitors. On the one hand, this ensures optimal separation between the sections and promotes low circuit impedances; on the other hand, however, one might worry about interference from AC voltage line leakage. The signal paths have been carefully routed, however, and the amplifier is truly very quiet.<\/p>\n<p>There are no complaints about the choice of components, which are properly sized and of good quality. The power filtering section is adequate, consisting of four 4,700-microfarad electrolytic capacitors per channel. The active components consist of two pairs of complementary STD03N\/STD03P transistors manufactured by Sanken. These are modern\u2014and therefore fast\u2014Darlington transistors which, like ON Semiconductor\u2019s famous Thermal Trak transistors, incorporate temperature-compensating diodes within their packages.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/M6xi-10.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1619px) 100vw, 1619px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/M6xi-10.jpg 1619w, https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/M6xi-10-265x177.jpg 265w, https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/M6xi-10-364x243.jpg 364w\" alt=\"Musical Fidelity M6xi Power Module\" width=\"1619\" height=\"1080\"><figcaption>Close-up of one of the two power boards that house the relevant power supply components, such as rectifier bridges and filter capacitors. It uses red metal-film capacitors from Wima and features an NJW1112 input management chip from JRC (Japan Radio Company). The volume control is also an integrated circuit, the excellent PGA2320 from Burr-Brown\/Texas Instruments. It is a digitally controlled analog attenuator where the audio signal is obviously not converted but is routed through a sequence of internal resistors and switches. The sequence of attenuation steps is decoded from the knob\u2019s position and communicated to the chip via a standard digital protocol by the amplifier\u2019s controller. This solution ensures low noise, precision, and perfect channel separation far beyond what is possible with even the best sliding-contact potentiometers.<\/p>\n<p>The digital section is spread across two separate boards, stacked on top of the input board. The first module handles HDMI, while the second, larger one is the actual converter, based on a Texas Instruments chip. It features the PCM9211, a proven digital input interface, and a PCM1781\u2014certainly not a latest-generation DAC, but nonetheless an effective delta-sigma converter.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/M6xi-12.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1619px) 100vw, 1619px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/M6xi-12.jpg 1619w, https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/M6xi-12-265x177.jpg 265w, https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/M6xi-12-364x243.jpg 364w\" alt=\"M6Xi preamp and digital boards\" width=\"1619\" height=\"1080\"><figcaption>Close-up of the preamplifier board assembly (bottom) and the digital inputs, which are themselves divided into two boards. It\u2019s commendable that, at a time when some brands are cutting costs by skimping a bit on materials\u2014as seen with some plastic front panels even in the higher-end market segments\u2014Musical Fidelity continues to use solid aluminum panels nearly two centimeters thick. The number of screws used to secure the top panel is also above average, as is the unit\u2019s overall weight, which is close to twenty kilograms.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also worth considering the packaging\u2014a design element that has no direct bearing on performance but demonstrates the care with which the company showcases its product. The Musical Fidelity M6xi integrated amplifier arrives in multi-layered cardboard packaging, an effective safeguard against the \u201ccriminal carelessness\u201d of many shipping carriers. Inside, you\u2019ll find accessories for maintaining its appearance, such as white cotton gloves and a fingerprint-resistant cloth. The unit itself is then housed in a velvet pouch. Even the instructions are bound in a ring-bound booklet reminiscent of technical manuals for scientific instruments. In short, Musical Fidelity continues to \u201cpamper\u201d the customer, offering the satisfaction of a touch of luxury even in this price range.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/m6xi-back.jpg.webp\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/m6xi-back.jpg.webp 1200w, https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/m6xi-back.jpg-265x81.webp 265w, https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/m6xi-back.jpg-364x112.webp 364w\" alt=\"Musical Fidelity M6xi Back Panel\" width=\"1200\" height=\"368\"><figcaption>The wide range of inputs and outputs allows for maximum flexibility in system configuration. Note the inclusion of a phono input (MM\/MC) as well as HDMI eARC and USB-C inputs.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h2><b><i>The Installation<\/i><\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The M6xi is a versatile integrated amplifier that supports numerous inputs and allows you to set up a system geared toward both various types of digital sources and analog sources. It features four RCA line inputs, plus one balanced input and a phono stage whose gain is selectable for MM or MC cartridges via a switch on the rear panel. The AUX1 input can also be configured as direct access to the output stages, without volume attenuation, as if the Musical Fidelity M6xi were a power amplifier. It features one variable and one fixed preamp output. Digital sources can be connected via an optical and a coaxial input. You can also connect a PC via the USB-C input, which supports up to 24-bit\/192 kHz PCM. A useful <i>bonus<\/i> is the HDMI eARC input, which allows you to integrate audio from a TV into your high-end audio system. There\u2019s also a convenient USB-A port for powering an external device (it does not carry data, however). The amplifier gets a little warm but not excessively so and can even be housed inside a cabinet as long as it has enough space to dissipate heat. <\/p>\n<h2><b><i>Musical Fidelity M6xi: The<\/i><\/b><b><i>Listening Experience<\/i><\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The Musical Fidelity M6xi integrated amplifier has a balanced and musical sound signature and delivers impressive power capable of driving demanding speakers in medium- to large-sized rooms.  The tonal balance is full, with a solid low end and good extension into the upper register.  Its ability to deliver a controlled and deep bass response is combined with an excellent upper-midrange\u2014natural and transparent\u2014which, taken together, creates a beautiful sense of realism. For the test, we used Bowers &#038; Wilkins 804 D3 speakers\u2014accurate but also demanding\u2014which the British integrated amplifier did justice to, fully exploiting their potential in a 30-square-meter living room. Solidity, texture, and excellent control of the woofers allowed it to handle even demanding tracks with truly convincing results\u2014the kind we\u2019d expect from more expensive amplifiers.<\/p>\n<p>Power and good control are complemented by commendable introspective qualities. The attention to detail and refinement observed when using the line and phono inputs are remarkable. The sound texture is refined, and with high-quality sources, the M6xi showcases exceptional resolution. It\u2019s not a tube amp, but it doesn\u2019t lack sensitivity when handling vocals or acoustic instruments with a certain naturalness.  This British integrated amplifier makes no secret of its high-end sound ambitions, and during testing it delivered a good dose of emotional impact. It manages to breathe life into classical music, for example, and places no particular limitations on how it drives speakers across all musical genres. Its \u201crefined power\u201d has the ability to deliver current freely while also refining even the most subtle sonic details.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Front-1.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1010px) 100vw, 1010px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Front-1.jpg 1010w, https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Front-1-192x108.jpg 192w, https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Front-1-265x148.jpg 265w, https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Front-1-364x203.jpg 364w\" alt=\"Musical Fidelity M6xi Front Panel\" width=\"1010\" height=\"564\"><figcaption>The design of the Musical Fidelity M6xi conveys a sense of great solidity and substance within a traditional, minimalist aesthetic. One minor issue is that the reference mark on the volume knob is difficult to see from a distance.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The spatial imaging is also excellent, creating a beautiful sense of three-dimensionality. Instruments and sound sources are precisely positioned on the soundstage and are easily localized not only in the foreground but also in the depth. This is particularly noticeable in orchestral passages, where individual sounds emerge with remarkable clarity. The 3D soundstage and clarity are readily apparent in a soundstage that effortlessly extends beyond the speakers and the walls of the room itself. The result is a very convincing performance with the right genres and recordings.<\/p>\n<p>When evaluating its features, it deserves high marks, especially for the performance of the line inputs and the phono input, which is quiet and accurate. It is certainly more than just a solution for casual listening and can be integrated into a high-quality analog setup. For testing, I used a Technics SL1200G turntable and Ortofon 2M Black LVB 250 and Quintet Black S cartridges, achieving satisfactory results. On the digital side, however, the built-in section performs its task without any particular pretensions.  It was clearly designed to offer versatility and convenience\u2014as evidenced by the HDMI port for connecting to a TV\u2014but not to replace a top-tier <i>digital front end <\/i>. You can also connect a PC, though you won\u2019t reach the highest resolutions currently available, which is its best feature. <\/p>\n<p>From a practical standpoint, it should be noted that the volume level indicator\u2014the notch on the knob\u2014is barely visible from any distance. An LED indicator on the knob, like the one on the B1xi all-in-one, or the digital display on the M6si500, would have been a nice addition.<\/p>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/M6xi-21-683x1024-1.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/M6xi-21-683x1024-1.jpg 683w, https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/M6xi-21-683x1024-1-265x397.jpg 265w, https:\/\/audio-2g.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/M6xi-21-683x1024-1-364x546.jpg 364w\" alt=\"M6xi Remote Control\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\"><figcaption>The package includes the standard remote control, which has far more buttons than are necessary to operate the amplifier. These buttons are only useful if other compatible Musical Fidelity devices are present.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><b><i>Concluding Remarks  <\/i><\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The Musical Fidelity M6xi is a well-built, well-designed, and high-performance amplifier. The British company has created an integrated amplifier with above-average power, capable of driving even demanding speakers. It combines powerful performance with musical finesse, making it as decisive and refined as we\u2019d expect from a representative of this distinguished British brand. Added to this are high-quality construction, an attractive design, and remarkable versatility in handling both analog and digital sources.
