LAiV Crescendo VERSE

LAiV Audio’s Crescendo series was created in response to the growing demand for desktop solutions capable of delivering high performance without sacrificing practicality. It is designed for those looking for sound quality, flexibility of use and a compact format, suitable both for the desktop and for integration into traditional audio systems. The first model in this line, which will be joined in the future by Chorus and Beat, is VERSE: a device that combines an R-2R DAC, a preamplifier with analog volume control, and a headphone amplifier in a single body. At its core, it adopts a fully discrete balanced R-2R ladder architecture, developed in-house by LAiV, based on individually selected resistors with an extremely strict tolerance of 0.05%, guaranteeing accuracy and sonic consistency. Aesthetically, it maintains the brand’s typical stylistic language, with an elegant and solid billet aluminum chassis that echoes the lines of the company’s other products. Distinguishing it are the presence of the two front jacks, one unbalanced 6.3 mm and one balanced 4.4 mm, and the characteristic 20×7 dot display, essential in design but extremely readable even at a distance.

Despite its small size, VERSE integrates a comprehensive digital input section, capable of dialoguing with both the latest generation sources and older equipment, including I2S connections over HDMI, optical, coaxial and USB-B. The discrete output stage is designed to ensure perfect impedance matching, limiting signal losses and allowing the use of very long cables without compromising on quality. Even in such a compact format, there are simultaneous balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA outputs. VERSE’s design is geared toward offering maximum control over music reproduction. Native 1-bit processing enables DSD playback without intermediate steps in PCM, fully preserving the original characteristics of the signal, from temporal structure to timbral character. This approach ensures a direct and consistent path from source to output, ideal for those seeking fidelity, naturalness and authenticity in DSD content. This is complemented by a built-in resampling system that allows extremely precise adjustment of both PCM and DSD streams, offering the possibility of adapting the sound to the characteristics of the system and the listener’s personal tastes.

The analog volume control is designed to be progressive, stable and precise, making VERSE suitable both for use with very sensitive headphones and as a line output. This allows it to be connected directly to active loudspeakers or used as a preamplifier in conjunction with external power amplifiers, simplifying the audio chain and making it suitable for both essential systems and more complex setups.

The fully discrete headphone amplifier stage was developed to provide power, quiet background and a high level of detail, while maintaining natural, non-fatiguing listening at all times. Three levels of selectable gain allow optimal matching with a wide variety of headphones, from the most sensitive in-ear models to the most demanding full-size ones. Built-in protections against temperature, overload and DC current ensure long-term reliability, operational safety and peace of mind in daily use.
