SL-1200 by Technics is probably the most popular and copied turntable on the market. Born for professional, Radio and DJ use, it has since gained an important market share among audiophiles. After all, Technics in the 1980s and 1990s was highly regarded and offered, in addition to the 1200, several models that enjoyed an excellent reputation. After many years, SL-1200 changes its face and comes in many versions, all oriented toward listening quality. The “G” under test, just below the top-of-the-line SL-1000, is part of the Grand Class line and uses many exclusive new technologies, including the magnesium alloy arm and three-layer platter and coreless motor. It is sold without a cartridge, but in our test we used two cartridges, one MM and one MC, both of which were of a high standard, also commenting on the listening differences.
