For many European enthusiasts, Polk Audio continues to be associated primarily with the world of home theater—a perception that does not do justice to the history of a manufacturer that has been one of the leading players in the U.S. home audio industry for decades. Founded in 1972 in Baltimore, the American company has built its reputation on a clear philosophy: bringing technical solutions typically reserved for high-end products to affordably priced speakers. A strategy that over the years has produced models of great commercial success but which, at least in Europe, has not always been accompanied by comparable recognition within strictly audiophile circles. Polk also suffers from a distribution model that, at least in Italy—and to no lesser extent in Germany—has for a long time limited sales to large retail chains, and this has significantly contributed to undermining its reputation among high-end audiophiles.

The situation has changed significantly in recent years with the arrival of the Legend series, a project that demonstrated Polk’s desire to openly compete with some of the most prestigious names in the international high-fidelity industry. And the Reserve line was born precisely from this experience. The goal is certainly not to replace the flagship series, but to bring a substantial portion of its technological heritage to a much more affordable price range—with the necessary distinctions, of course.
