Polk currently has five product lines: in addition to the top-of-the-line Legend series, there’s the Reserve series, as well as the Signature Elite, Monitox XT, and T series—which we reviewed here—and it’s one of the most affordable series on the market. The Reserve lineup is extensive, featuring three floor-standing models—the R500, R600, and R700; this R200; a smaller R100; three center channels—the R300, R350 (a very interesting slim model that can even be installed under a TV), and R400; and finally, the R900 Atmos. Within the Reserve family, the R200 occupies a strategic position, designed for both stereo use and integration into high-end multichannel systems. This is a particularly interesting positioning because it places it in direct competition with some of the most highly regarded speakers in the category, from the KEF LS50 Meta to the DALI Sonik, as well as numerous models from Monitor Audio, Bowers & Wilkins, and Focal.
From an aesthetic standpoint, the R200 avoids any attempt at forced originality. Its proportions are classic, the construction appears solid, and the unit immediately conveys a sense of quality. In addition to the matte black and matte white finishes, a Walnut version is also available; thanks to its natural wood-effect surfaces, this is likely the best choice for traditional home settings, whereas the black version, in particular, seems a bit too “professional” due to its embossed surface and might not be well-suited for home environments.
Highly advanced technology
The Reserve series incorporates numerous technologies. The Pinnacle Ring Radiator tweeter is one of the most technically sophisticated solutions available in this market segment. Unlike a traditional dome, the ring radiator extends the high-frequency response while maintaining very precise control over dispersion. Behind it is a damped rear chamber that reduces internal resonances and helps keep the response clean in the upper part of the frequency spectrum.
